It has been a while right  I know I have been MIA for far too long, but I am back for now with much-awaited review of the sister to the very-loved Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette. This review is going to be on the new “Soft Glam” eyeshadow palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills.

My Experience with Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eye Shadow Palette:

Packaging: This palette comes in a similar size and format as the Modern Renaissance palette with the same annoying velvet front, which tends to get dirty so easily. I do wish they would change up this aspect which a lot of their customers despise. I really dislike the brush provided in this particular palette. The brush in the “Modern Renaissance” palette was not bad to use on my travels when I was short on space, but the brush in “Soft Glam” seems scratchier, sheds all over, and is poorly made. I understand that many people usually don’t prefer using brushes that come with such palettes, but if a brand does decide putting in one, I would rather want they put in some effort in that as well. A good example – Urban Decay Naked (Naked, Naked 2, Naked 3, Naked Heated) palettes, which always have a great quality travel brush in them.

Texture, Pigmentation, Blend-ability: Anastasia recently faced a lot of backlash when she decided on changing the formula with their Subculture palette which was a huge fail and made a lot of their customers who preferred the Modern Renaissance formula very upset. Hence the brand came out with this palette to appease the customers with the same well-loved formula as the Modern Renaissance. In fact, they adhered to that policy so much that 3 shades (Tempera, Burnt orange and Cyprus umber) are repeats from the other palette, but hey, as they say “If it’s not broken..” I don’t really mind the repeats as those were my favorite shades from the former palette and the ones that I use in almost every look, so I am glad to have the same ones in this palette which makes it easier if I wanted to travel with this palette alone.

The texture and blend-ability of these shadows are just as amazing, just as the Modern Renaissance palette. They are saturated in pigment, easy to diffuse and the metallic colors truly pop on the lids.

Shades:
I really love the shade range in this palette. Every look really delivers on the “Soft glam” theme. This palette is an absolute no-brainer with everything from lid color to mattes to soft shimmers to metallics, all in one place. It would be ideal to travel with or for weddings.

Tempera: Ultra-matte velvety beige. This is a beautiful brow bone shade and to set the primer. I sometimes use this as an all-over lid shade too with matte brown crease shade for a subtle au natural eye look.

Glistening: Iridescent gold with a hint of pink reflect. This shade is one of the less in your face shimmery shades.

Orange Soda: Ultra-matte pastel peach. This is a beautiful transition shade when you don’t want a very harsh defined crease.

Rose Pink: Rose gold with a soft pink iridescent hue. I love this shade, it is perfect for date nights. This shade just like the shade “Glistening” leans toward a soft shimmer rather than straight up metallic.

Sultry: A hybrid satin metallic finish warm chocolate brown. This shadow has lots of pink shimmer over a brown base which tends to make it look more pink or more brown depending on how the light hits it.

Bronze: Metallic gold bronze. This shade takes home the medal for me. It is one of those fully saturated metallics which almost feel creamy to the touch. It works well with a brush but is best applied with fingertips.

Mulberry: Ultra-matte mulberry. This shade is a beautiful deep red mulberry shade.

Dusty Rose: Ultra-matte dusty lilac. This is a beautiful shade to use a tradition for pink-toned looks.

Fairy: Multi-dimensional light gold. This shade is another one of those soft shimmer in this palette. Looks beautiful as an all-over lid shade.

Burnt Orange: Ultra-matte deep orange. A beautiful tradition or crease shade and also to diffuse out edges in the crease.

Sienna: Ultra-matte earthy brown. A perfect reddish brown crease shade.

Rustic: Ultra-matte deep cinnamon brown. The perfect mid tone brown crease shade. You just cannot go wrong with this.

Cypress Umber: Ultra-matte dark coffee. This is a my go to shade for smoking out the lash line without making it seem too harsh.

Noir: Ultra-matte deep carbon black. The ever versatile black beauty. Can be used for smoky eyes, smudging, defining. You name it.

Swatches on hand:

Staying Power: These shadows were beautifully for 7-8 hours with minimal fading. They don’t crease on me and remain vibrant throughout wear time.

Overall, this palette is aptly named “Soft Glam.” Though you might think “Do I need anther neutral palette?” I do feel the quality and the cohesiveness of this palette makes it unmatched to any other “neutral” palette out in the market. I am super pleased with it and highly recommend it to anyone.
