Stila Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow Twig Review

I have an another glam product from Stila for review today. This is the recently launched Stila Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow and not to be confused with the existing range of Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadows. These were launched towards the end of 2017 in November/December as an Ulta exclusive and found their way into Sephora fairly recently. The shade I have for review today is “Twig”.

Product Description:
What it is:
A long-wearing, high-shimmer liquid eyeshadow.

What it does:
Glisten and gleam with stila’s new Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow—rich, beautiful color with a high shimmer sheen, minus the glitter.

The pearl-packed translucent base offers versatile wear. Apply a sheer layer for daytime, or add layers for nighttime drama. This uniquely lightweight, water-infused texture gives a barely-there, refreshing feel and smooth color laydown. The non-tacky, non-transfer, adhesive base means minimal fallout—no primer needed.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

Suggested Usage:
-Apply to lid and blend using your fingers or a brush.
-Wear alone or over eyeshadow.

Precautions:
-In case of eye irritation, discontinue use of all eye cosmetics and consult your ophthalmologist at once.

Packaging:
The Shimmer and Glow Eye shadow have the same identical packaging as the Glitter and Glow ones. They come packaged in a lip gloss type of packaging except for the fact that the tube is cuboid instead of cylindrical. It looks quite like the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick packaging. It has a doe-foot type of applicator which allows easy dispensing and application of the product.

The good thing is that the tube has a silicon stopper at its neck, which ensures that too much product does not get dispensed out at one go and it really helps. Also, it would prevent the product coming in contact with air too much. The applicator works well for applying the eyeshadow on the lid. However, if you need to use the eyeshdow as a liquid liner, you will need to use a fine tip brush from your collection. The product comes packed in a golden cardboard box. Overall, the packaging is functional and aesthetically appealing.

My experience with Stila Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow Twig:

Shade: The shade is described by the company as “Shimmering Warm Chestnut Brown.” I think the description is apt. It is a deep warm brown with red undertones and a pearlescent finish. There are no glitters, micro-glitters or even shimmer particles visible – just an even pearly sheen. It could be used as a twist to a brown smokey eye or as an accent shade to your liner – like I have used in the FOTD.

Texture: The product is a liquid without seeming watery. The eyeshadow applies evenly – even as you spread it, it never gets streaky or patchy. On application, you get a homogenous even look and you do not need to go over to make any area look even with the next one. It takes less than a minute to dry down which does give you ample time to blend out the edges softly with your fingers or with a synthetic brush – if you are using it as an eye shadow (not a liner).

Despite the metallicness, it did not seem to accentuate texture on my lid, nor did it sink into the fine lines on my eyes. So, it does not accentuate texture on the lids either. I found it fairly easy to work with. The best part about these shimmer shadows is that since they do not have any flecks of glitter or micro-glitter, etc and just an extremely homogenous mixture, they are very easy to use as an accent shade – basically to draw a thin line (as long as you have steady hands, of course!!) So, for an accent shade, say a thin line on your cut crease or a parallel line to your eye liner, I think this is an easier product to use than the Stila Glitter and Glow or the Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliners. Even when it completely dries off and sets, the skin is smooth. You don’t have it flaking or even feel like its going to flake. And once set, it does not budge!

Pigmentation: Pigmentation is fully opaque – even and smooth in one small swipe. Whether you are using it on your lid as an all over eye shadow or just as an accent colour, you do not need to go over twice. It does not thin out as your brush moves across. It imparts full pigmentation in one go.

Staying Power: Disclaimer – I apply eyeshadows with a primer because my lids are way too oily. I get about 10+ hours of wear. It does not budge!!

FOTD: The product has been used on the upper lid – in the outer corner – as an accent shade to the black liner. This has NOT been used on the lower lashline/waterline.

• Did not sting my eyes or cause irritation.
• Does not need a glitter glue as a base.
• Travel-friendly.
• Can be used as an accent shade or an all over eyeshadow or as a topper.
• Ease of application.
• Formulated without Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates.

Cons of Stila Shimmer and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow Twig:

• I wish it was waterproof. However, the Company has made no such claims about it either.
